The HydraCal Accumulator Sizing Calculator helps engineers determine the required accumulator volume based on minimum and maximum working pressures and the exchanged oil volume.
It calculates the gas pre-charge pressure, minimum required accumulator volume and a recommended accumulator size.
What Information Is Required?
The calculation uses:
Minimum Working Pressure
Maximum Working Pressure
Exchanged Oil Volume
Process Type
The gas pre-charge pressure is calculated automatically from the minimum working pressure.
Slow or Fast Process?
The Slow / Fast selection determines the thermodynamic behavior assumed for the gas during compression and expansion.
Slow – Isothermal Process
Select Slow (n = 1) when the accumulator operates through relatively slow charge and discharge cycles.
Because the process is slow, the gas has enough time to exchange heat with its surroundings. Therefore, the process can be approximated as isothermal.
Slow accumulator operation can be encountered in applications such as leakage compensation, pressure maintenance and other applications where fluid volume changes relatively slowly.
Fast – Adiabatic Process
Select Fast (n = 1.4) when the accumulator is charged or discharged rapidly.
In fast cycles, there is insufficient time for significant heat transfer. The gas temperature therefore changes during compression or expansion, and the process can be approximated as adiabatic.
Fast accumulator operation is common when the accumulator is required to rapidly supply or absorb hydraulic energy, such as supporting high instantaneous flow demand or accelerating hydraulic movements.
The selected process type directly affects the calculated accumulator volume.
What Does HydraCal Calculate?
HydraCal provides:
Gas Pre-Charge Pressure (P0)
Minimum Required Accumulator Volume
Recommended Accumulator Size
The recommended size helps engineers evaluate a practical accumulator volume for the application.
Why Is Accumulator Sizing Important?
Correct accumulator sizing is important for ensuring that the required hydraulic volume and energy can be supplied within the specified pressure range.
HydraCal helps you:
Calculate accumulator volume
Determine gas pre-charge pressure
Evaluate isothermal and adiabatic operating conditions
Support leakage compensation applications
Support rapid energy and flow demand applications
Reduce manual calculation time
Support hydraulic system design

Hesaplama sonucunda gaz ön şarj basıncı, minimum gerekli akümülatör hacmi ve önerilen akümülatör hacmi elde edilir.
Hangi Bilgiler Girilir?
Hesaplama için:
Minimum Çalışma Basıncı
Maksimum Çalışma Basıncı
Değiştirilen Yağ Hacmi
Proses Tipi

The Hydraulic Decompression Calculator in HydraCal helps engineers determine the required decompression orifice diameter or estimate decompression time in hydraulic systems.
What Does the Decompression Calculator Do?
Before a hydraulic circuit switches from a high-pressure condition to a low-pressure or return condition, trapped hydraulic fluid can cause sudden pressure release. Controlled decompression helps reduce pressure shocks, vibration, noise, and unnecessary stress on hydraulic components.
HydraCal provides two calculation options:
Calculate Orifice Diameter: Determine the required orifice diameter based on the desired decompression time.
Calculate Time: Calculate the expected decompression time for a specified orifice diameter.
Required Input Data
The calculator requires three main system parameters:
Bore Diameter (D)
Working Stroke (S)
System Pressure (P)
Based on these values, HydraCal calculates the relevant system values:
Cylinder Area
Total Volume
Compression Volume
The calculated system data is then used to determine the selected decompression parameter.
Why Is Controlled Decompression Important?
A properly sized decompression orifice can help control the rate at which pressure is released from a hydraulic system. This is particularly important in systems where rapid pressure changes may cause hydraulic shock, component stress, or unstable machine operation.
HydraCal makes it easier to evaluate decompression requirements during hydraulic system design and component selection.
Key Benefits
Quickly calculate decompression orifice diameter
Estimate decompression time
Evaluate cylinder volume and compression volume
Support hydraulic valve and circuit design
Reduce manual calculation effort
Suitable for both Metric and Imperial unit systems

The Free Fall Analysis Calculator in HydraCal helps hydraulic engineers evaluate whether a cylinder and its working load can achieve a free-fall or gravity-driven downward movement under the given system conditions.
The calculator analyzes the forces acting on the hydraulic cylinder and determines the resulting net force.
What Does the Free Fall Analysis Calculator Do?
During a gravity-driven downward movement, several forces act on the hydraulic system. The load and cylinder rod create downward forces, while friction and hydraulic back pressure oppose the movement.
HydraCal calculates these forces separately and compares them to determine the net force acting on the system.
Required System Parameters
The calculator requires:
Bore Diameter (D)
Rod Diameter (d)
Rod Length (L)
Working Mass (m) ( Ram / Platen / Die Weight )
Back Pressure (BP)
These parameters are used to determine the cylinder geometry, rod weight, working load force, and hydraulic resistance.
Downward Forces
HydraCal calculates the main forces contributing to the downward movement:
Rod Weight Force
The weight of the cylinder rod is calculated from the rod mass and gravitational acceleration. This force contributes to the downward movement.
Working Mass (Ram / Platen / Die Weight) Force
The force generated by the working mass is calculated from its mass and gravitational acceleration. This is typically the primary external force driving the cylinder downward.
The calculator combines these forces to determine the Total Downward Force.
Upward Forces
The calculator also determines the forces opposing the downward movement:
Friction Force
A friction force is calculated based on the total downward force. This represents the resistance caused by friction in the hydraulic/mechanical system.
Back Pressure Force
Back pressure acting on the effective annular area of the cylinder generates an opposing force. This force reduces the available force for gravity-driven movement.
The calculator combines these values to determine the Total Upward Force.
Net Force and Free Fall Result
After calculating both directions of force, HydraCal determines the Net Force:
Net Force = Total Downward Force − Total Upward Force
The result indicates whether the available downward force is sufficient to overcome the opposing forces.
If the downward force is insufficient, HydraCal displays a “FAIL: WEIGHT IS NOT ENOUGH” warning, indicating that the working mass cannot overcome the calculated resistance under the entered conditions.
Why Is Free Fall Analysis Important?
Free-fall analysis is important when designing hydraulic systems where gravity-driven cylinder movement is required. Understanding the balance between load force, rod weight, friction, and back pressure helps engineers evaluate whether the system can move as intended.
HydraCal provides a clear force-by-force calculation, making it easier to identify which forces contribute to or resist the movement.
Key Benefits
Analyze gravity-driven cylinder movement
Calculate downward and upward forces separately
Determine total downward and upward force
Calculate net force
Evaluate the effect of back pressure and friction

Show calculation details and formulas
Support hydraulic system design and troubleshooting
Available in Metric and Imperial unit systems
HydraCal Free Fall Analysis Calculator provides a practical way to evaluate the force balance of hydraulic cylinders operating under gravity-driven conditions.
Eğer ağırlık kuvveti yeterli değilse HydraCal “FAIL: WEIGHT IS NOT ENOUGH” uyarısını gösterir.
Neden Önemlidir?
Serbest düşme analizi, özellikle hidrolik preslerde koç ve kalıbın yerçekimi etkisiyle aşağı hareket ettiği sistemlerin tasarımında önemlidir.
Koç, tabla ve kalıp ağırlığı; silindir milinin ağırlığı, sürtünme ve karşı basınç ile birlikte değerlendirilerek sistemin aşağı yönlü hareket kabiliyeti belirlenebilir.

The Hydraulic Piping Analysis Calculator in HydraCal helps engineers evaluate hydraulic pipe flow conditions and estimate the pressure loss through a pipe.
By entering the flow rate, internal pipe diameter, fluid viscosity, and pipe length, HydraCal calculates the main parameters needed to evaluate hydraulic piping performance.
Required Input Parameters
The calculator requires four main inputs:
Flow Rate (Q)
Internal Pipe Diameter (d)
Fluid Viscosity (ν)
Pipe Length (L)
HydraCal also uses a predefined hydraulic oil density for the calculation.
What Does the Piping Analysis Calculator Calculate?
After entering the system parameters, HydraCal provides three key results.
Flow Velocity
The calculator determines the hydraulic fluid velocity inside the pipe based on the flow rate and internal pipe diameter.
Flow velocity is an important parameter when selecting pipe sizes and evaluating hydraulic circuit performance. Excessive velocity can contribute to higher pressure losses and undesirable flow conditions.
Reynolds Number and Flow Type
HydraCal calculates the Reynolds number (Re) to determine the flow regime inside the pipe.
The Reynolds number is used to classify the flow as:
Laminar
Transitional
Turbulent
The flow regime affects the way pressure losses are calculated and provides useful information about the behavior of the hydraulic fluid inside the pipe.
Pressure Drop
The calculator determines the pressure drop caused by fluid flow through the pipe.
Pressure drop is affected by factors such as flow rate, pipe diameter, fluid viscosity, flow regime, and pipe length. Understanding this value is important for evaluating hydraulic system efficiency and selecting an appropriate pipe size.
Why Is Piping Analysis Important?
Correct pipe sizing is essential for efficient hydraulic system design. A pipe that is too small can result in high fluid velocity and excessive pressure loss, while an unnecessarily large pipe can increase system cost and installation requirements.
HydraCal allows engineers to quickly evaluate these parameters and understand how the selected pipe dimensions and operating conditions affect hydraulic flow.
Key Benefits
Calculate hydraulic fluid flow velocity
Determine Reynolds number
Identify the flow regime
Calculate pipe pressure drop
Evaluate the effect of pipe diameter and length
Support hydraulic pipe sizing
Reduce manual engineering calculations

Borulama Analizi Neleri Hesaplar?
HydraCal, girilen sistem verilerine göre üç temel sonuç sunar.
Akış Hızı
Boru içerisindeki hidrolik yağın akış hızı, debi ve boru iç çapına bağlı olarak hesaplanır.
Akış hızı, boru çapının belirlenmesi ve hidrolik sistem performansının değerlendirilmesi açısından önemli bir parametredir. Gereğinden yüksek akış hızları daha yüksek basınç kayıplarına ve istenmeyen akış koşullarına neden olabilir.
Reynolds Sayısı ve Akış Tipi
HydraCal, boru içerisindeki akış rejimini belirlemek için Reynolds sayısını (Re) hesaplar.
Reynolds sayısına göre akışın:
Laminer
